Catherine S. Stroud, 87, of New Castle, passed away the night of December 27, 2014 at Jameson Care Center. Born April 26, 1927 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Wilhelmina Pape Sager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E. "Bud" Stroud, Jr. whom she married October 17, 1949. She was a graduate of Shenango High School and New Castle Business College. In addition to being a homemaker to her husband and three children, Catherine was a clerk at G.C. Murphy and a secretary for Penn Power. Because of her love of flowers and gardening, she enjoyed her employment at Dess's Greenhouse where she planted flowers and assisted customers. Catherine enjoyed singing at weddings, and as a member of Christ Lutheran Church, she also sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Club Girls, who took pride in continuing to meet monthly since high school graduation in 1945. She is survived by two daughters, Catherine "Cathy" (Gary) Cubbal of Yulee, Fla and April (Ron) Badger of New Castle; one son, David (Cynthia) Stroud of Jacksonville, FL; and four grandchildren, Matthew Badger, Bryce Cubbal, Andrew Badger, and Daniela Stroud. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Robert Sager; one sister, Wilma Sager; and two grandchildren, Christmas and Jennifer Cubbal. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Sean Walters officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
