Charles "Chuck" Travers, loving and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 12, 2020 at the age of 90 at Shenango on the Green. He will be profoundly missed by his wife, his children and their families, and many others who knew and loved him. Born in New Castle, he was the son of the late Charles and Garnetta (Hays) Travers. He married Barbara L. Shoaff on June 4, 1955. She resides at home in New Castle. Chuck Travers was a tremendous athlete, coach, and teacher who excelled in every sport he attempted. He began his athletic career at Union High School as a three season talent, and then moved on to college and the military where he was a standout in both baseball and football. Back in Lawrence County he played with multiple baseball teams in the North County league; iconic fastpitch teams like Corsi's and Future A.C.; and a host of slow pitch teams. He ultimately graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College with a degree in Physical Education and spent the next 35 years teaching and coaching at three area high schools. He started at Wilmington, returned to Union for one year, and finally felt at "home" at Neshannock High School where he was employed for 30 years. There he compiled an exceptional record of winning seasons as coach of the girls track and cross country teams. He continued to play softball into the 1990s with the Penn-Ohio Old Timers. More than his athletic accomplishments, however, Chuck was proud of the family he raised with Barb. He was unconditionally devoted to them and loved them more than anything. He was a remarkable man and wonderful role model, who always put family first. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 5 children, Kim (Bill) Panella, Kirk, Kelly (Ron) McEntire, Kathy Fehrs, and Kristen and his 10 grandchildren, Brody (Abbey) Travers, Kendall (Jason) Huston, Sydney Travers, Luke Fehrs, Seth Fehrs, Jesse Fehrs, Sarah Panella, Becky Panella, Charlie Panella, and Matty Panella. He is also survived by his brother Dallas (Linda.) He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Kurt Fehrs. Chuck was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of New Castle. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Benevolence Fund, First Baptist Church, 984 West Maitland Lane, New Castle, PA, 16105--or any charity of choice. There will be no visitation as a result of the pandemic, but a memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
