Charles W. Criswell, 87, of New Castle, passed away the morning of October 15, 2011 at Rhodes Estates.Charles was born on November 25, 1923, in New Castle, to the late Charles G. and Hazel I. Pettitt Criswell. He married the former Ruth M. Mayberry on May 24, 1947. She passed on August 18, 2009. Mr. Criswell was a clerk and produce manager for the A&P Tea Co. for 30 years, until his retirement in 1979. Charles was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, The American Legion and received a purple heart serving his country in the Army during WWII.He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Carol Criswell of Ohio, Larry and Lynne Criswell of Florida; one brother, Tom Criswell of Ohio; 4 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.Mr. Criswell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; three sister, Maxine Engle, Sue Martini, Jess Criswell; 3 step-sisters, Katherine Rotgaber, Twila Gruenwall, Grace Meyer; and 2 step-brothers, Geral & Frances.Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2011, from 11-1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Andrew Jillson will officiate. Burial will be in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
