Charles L. Higgs, 90, of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 29, 2018 at his residence.
Born February 29, 1928 in Bradford, Tennessee, he was the son of Jim and Willie (Mitchell) Higgs.
Charles was preceded in death in 1968 by his first wife, Jean Defibaugh Higgs. On February 26, 1971 he subsequently married Dorothy (Samis) Brown Higgs who passed away November 21, 2015.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a PFC from 1947-1951.
For 32 years Mr. Higgs was employed as a painter with the Painters Local Union #1066 until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion #343 and of Harmony Baptist Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Penny Fraser of New Castle; one step-daughter, Barbara Fandozzi of New Middletown, OH; three step-sons, Steve (Joan) Brown, David (Stacy) Brown and H. Dale (Cindy) Brown, all of New Castle; a son-in-law, Ron Miller of Portersville, PA; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and both wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam Miller; a son-in-law, John Fraser; and two brothers, James and Robert Higgs.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Graceland Cemetery.
