Charles W. "Bill" Jordan, 80, of New Castle, died the afternoon of February 18, 2010, at Jameson Hospital North. Bill was born February 23, 1929, in Kingston, WV to the late Walter B. and Lena V. Neal Jordan.He was a graduate of Oceana High School in 1947. Following his graduation from high school he entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Valley Forge and LST's during the Korean War from 1948 until 1952. Following his service to his country, Bill went to work for LTV Steel, retiring several years later as a mill right. He then went to work for Giant Eagle, retiring again in 1997. Bill loved to exercise, and watch sports and was especially interested in following Bret Favre's football career.He was survived by his companion of 25 years, Nora Lee Sallie; one daughter and son in-law, Patricia and Wayne Slater of New Castle; one son, Michael W. Jordan of St. Petersburg, FL.; one sister and brother in-law; Betty and Bill Taylor of Chicago, IL.; two brothers and sister in-laws, Gary and Jean Jordan, Brad and Sandy Jordan all of Florida; two granddaughters, Roxane Corbisello and Lauren Slater of New Castle. He also was loved and will be greatly missed by his extended family, whose lives he was a part of for 25 years, Eric Sallie of Las Vegas, NV and Noel Sallie of New Castle.Bill was preceded in death be his parents; and 3 sisters, Dorothy Delores Hernley, Marcella Jordan and Isabelle Panella.There will be no public visitation.A private service will take place at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd., New Castle. The Rev. Dennis Bupp will officiate. The New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military services at that service. Burial will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.
