Charles R. Lehman, a long-term resident of Neshannock Township in New Castle, PA died on March 30 in his home surrounded by family after an extended illness. He was 84 years old.
Chuck was born on March 3, 1935 in Portersville, PA, the son of Paul E. and Sarah Mae (Watson) Lehman. He was raised in Portersville and graduated from Portersville High School. Following graduation Chuck enlisted in the US Army where he served from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he extended his service in the Army reserves for five additional years.
Chuck had a lengthy career as an entrepreneur in advertising and franchise ownership until he retired in 1991. He was a member of the New Castle Mahoning Lodge 243, New Castle Consistory, Lawrence Caravan #15, and the Syrian Shrine of Pittsburgh. He was a long-term member of Northminster Presbyterian Church of New Castle where he formerly served as a deacon.
Chuck and his wife Jean enjoyed 20 years living in the Villages of Lady Lake Florida during the winter months where they spent many fun-filled days playing cards, winning competitive shuffle board matches and playing pool with their many close friends.
Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter, which was a family tradition that he passed along to his children and grandchildren and he also enjoyed woodworking and fixing just about anything.
Most importantly, Chuck was a deeply devoted family man and most proud to be a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His focus on family shines through in the incredible relationships and legacy that he leaves behind with those that loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean (Presnar) Lehman. He is also survived by two sons and one daughter David Charles Lehman of Dormont, PA, Denise Lehman Galasso and her husband Martin of New Canaan, CT and Donald Paul Lehman and his wife Nancy of New Castle, PA; 10 grandchildren Kyle Lehman and his wife Melody, Krista DeFrangesco and husband Jim, Alex Lehman, Rachel Lehman all of Pittsburgh, PA, Paige Lehman of Florida, Oliver Dennis of New York City, Charles Tucker Dennis of Palm Beach, Florida and Parker Dennis of Connecticut, Jonathan Barletto and wife Stephanie and Kylee Barletto of New Castle, PA; and 5 great children. He is also survived by a nephew James Lehman and wife Cathy of Sewickly, PA and a sister-in-law Helen Lehman.
He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Richard Lehman of Portersville, PA.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 PM on Tuesday, April 2 and 10 to 11 AM Wednesday, April 3 at Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road in New Castle. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, April 3 by Pastor Jordan Rimmer of Northminster Presbyterian Church at Cunningham Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
