Charles Eugene "Chuck" McGrath, Jr. of New Castle, Pa passed away August 2, 2018 at his residence. Born on September 13, 1923, he was the only son of Charles Eugene McGrath, Sr and Mary Henderson McGrath. On May 1, 1943 he married the love of his life, Janet Rae Miller McGrath and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage until her death on December 22, 2015. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, Class of 1941. For a time, he worked at WKST, local radio station as a switch operator. He was working the morning of the broadcast of President Roosevelt's declaration of the United States entry to World War II. He joined the Civil Service and completed a course on electronics. He came home, married Janet and they moved to Macon, Georgia to continue that work. He was called to the Army in the fall of 1943 and served in Italy working in radio with the aircraft Identify friend or foe equipment. Following an honorable discharge at the end of the war, he returned to New Castle and began a long career in radio and TV repair. He and Janet owned and operated McGrath Electronics until his retirement in 2005. Chuck's life was dedicated to caring and providing for his family and friends. A lifelong member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, Chuck taught Sunday School for a number of years, served as a Trustee and until a few years ago took his place as an usher. He and Janet served on the Cascade Park Dance Committee for many years and were accomplished ball room dancers. He also enjoyed water color painting and painted numerous landscapes for friends and family. Chuck is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Richard Early of Charlotte, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Denise McGrath of Brentwood, CA, and Scott and Linda McGrath of New Wilmington. He is survived by 6 grandchildren: Mari Rae McGrath, Kristen Early Hauer, Martha McGrath Brown, Jonathan Charles McGrath, Bethany Early Chieffallo, and LeeAnna Early; 5 great-grandsons; and a sister, Edys (McGrath) McClymonds in California. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Dance, Shirley Barnes and Alys Bishop. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 5 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and 10:00 to 11:00 Monday, August 6 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Plyler officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, 220 E.
