Charles H. Norris, 90, of Tulagi Way, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 27, 2013 at Jameson Care Center. Born July 21, 1923 in New Castle, he was a son of Harry C. and Ella Kennedy Norris. He was preceded in death on September 20, 2008 by his wife of 60 years, Mary R. Rowan Norris, whom he married June 12, 1948. Following his graduation in June of 1942 from New Castle High School, Chuck entered the U.S. Army. He served as a sergeant with the 104th Infantry Division during WWII and a corporal during the Korean Conflict. Chuck was employed for 45 years with Penn Power Company in the purchasing/store room department. He was also a member of the PA Electric Store Committee. He was the past president of the New Castle Pistol Club and member of the VFW. In July of 2010 he was presented with the Knight of the Legion of Honor by the President of France. Chuck had many interests, some of which were woodworking, genealogy, and creating computer websites. He was the author of four books; Poems of Mary Ann Rowan, Writings of Todd R. Norris, Life in the Army: Letters to Jean, and MS, A Family Challenge. Chuck was a member of Epworth Methodist Church where previously served on the administrative board. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Todd R. and Marcy Norris of Holland, PA; a sister-in-law, Sallie Daytner and her husband Ed; one brother-in-law, Robert Rowan and one step-grandson, Kevin Cauliffe. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter P. Norris and John F. Norris. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following visitation at 12:00 Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the funeral home and will be officiated by Pastor Tom Scott. A military service will be given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard at Castle View Gardens following the funeral.
