Charles (Chuck) Monroe Wingfield, 84, of Neshannock Township, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of December 17, 2021. He passed peacefully at his home. Born on May 13, 1937 in New Castle, he was the son of Ancil M. and Esther J. (Cooper) Wingfield. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Judith D. (Richards) Wingfield, whom he married on November 23, 1962. Charles was a graduate of New Castle High School Class of 1956. Following graduation, he attended Youngstown State University to pursue a degree in Commercial Art, but was drafted into the Army in 1959. Stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, he played trumpet for the Army Band. Chuck worked for Bell Atlantic/Verizon for 33 years and retired as a cable splicer in 1999. He spoke often of how fortunate he was to have a job that he loved, and great friends to work with. Chuck had many talents and passions. Along with playing the trumpet, he was a talented watercolor artist. He and his wife Judy would go for long drives taking pictures of the countryside. He would then spend hours sketching and painting the pictures turning them into framed masterpieces. During his time as a cable splicer, he rescued many stray animals, never leaving any behind. There were even times that he would lure them into his truck with part of his lunch. They would ride around with him all day, then go home with him. If Chuck didn't find them a home, he would simply keep them. This was one of his greatest passions in life. In addition to all of this, Chuck was an avid bird watcher, and fed the birds for over fifty years. On the morning he passed, his daughters, standing outside, and in the silence of the morning, heard one bird singing its heart out. Chuck spoke daily of his happy memories of his childhood in Croton. He especially loved playing baseball at Flaherty Field and swimming in Neshannock Creek until dark. He spoke often of his fond memories of his neighborhood friends. He was still getting together with his Croton friends even as recently as two years ago. Chuck's love of baseball carried on throughout his life. He was an excellent first baseman for many years, and then spent every minute he could watching his grandson play. Chuck was also a member of the German Club and the Italian Home. He was also a proud lifelong member of First Baptist Church. Most of all, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family and loved them with a passion. Spending as much time with his grandchildren as possible, fishing, watching his grandson play baseball and his granddaughter's cheerleading events were some of his favorite times. Also, many memories were made on his boat at Pymatuning State Park. Chuck also enjoyed spending time with his cat Sammy sitting at the picnic table by his pond, or just sitting on the porch watching the wildlife. In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra Conlee, and Laura and Lester Meiter, of New Castle; two grandchildren, Alexander and Abagael Meiter, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Kelly and his brother-in-law James Kelly. Despite many challenging illnesses, Chuck had a full and happy life and we were fortunate to have him as long as we did. God Blessed him with a loving family and many good friends that will miss him dearly. He was truly loved by all who knew him.
