Obituary

Charlotte Mae Harlan, age 84, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Jan. 3, 2024, at her residence.

Born Oct. 6, 1939, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marian (Kraynak) Patterson.

In June of 1965, she married her beloved husband of 58 years, Lloyd Harlan. He survives at home.

Charlotte received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from IUP. She then went on to earn her Master's degree, in education, from West Virginia University and IUP. For 37 years, she taught primary grades at Shenango Elementary School until her retirement. Among some of her interests, Charlotte enjoyed all animals, riding horses and motorcycles, vacationing out West, reading, doing projects with her sister, and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a career member of N.E.A., past member of PSEA, and an active member of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder for many years.

In addition to her husband, Charlotte is survived by one son, Lloyd Matthew (Angela) Harlan of New Castle, PA; one brother, Leonard Patterson of New Castle, PA; one sister, Phyllis DeAngio, of New Castle, PA; two granddaughters, Katelyn (CJ) Miller of Oak Grove, KY and Brooke (Nolan) Campbell of West Middlesex, PA; and one great grandson, Brycen.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, George Patterson.

In keeping with her wishes, a private service will be held by the family at their convenience.

Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
