On June 6th, Christopher M. Mangan, 53 of Los Gatos, California, lost his life in a tragic hiking accident in Yosemite National Park. Born March 12, 1966 in Pittsburgh, Chris was the son of Dennis & Martha (Momchilovich) Mangan. Chris graduated from New Castle High, class of 1984. He received an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh, completing his education at Carnegie Mellon with a Masters degree in Industrial Management. He eventually left New Castle for sunny California to work at several tech companies in Silicon Valley. In recent years he worked for various companies as a consultant. Chris volunteered his time at the Stanford Hospital pediatric department and was asked to train new recruits. This was where he met Jennifer Hipon, a nurse and his companion for many years. A devoted uncle to his two nephews, Michael & John, Chris included them in many adventures. He spent many visits with his sister Kim and her family here in the states and overseas where her husband, David was deployed. An avid hiker, Chris loved being outdoors, which was the most coveted passion along with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chris was a self appointed Master of Ceremonies at family events and holidays. His specialty was passing out Christmas gifts, planning up-coming trips, sporting events, and of course Steeler games. He marched to his own drummer and petty much enjoyed every minute of it. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends. Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Elizabeth Mangan, Peter & Helen Momchilovich; and one aunt Kathleen Mangan Mourkas. In addition to his parents, survivors include, sister Kimberly (David) Grennek; Nephews Michael (Shannon) Grennek and John Grennek; Aunt Lillian Momchilovich, Uncle Robert (Rita) Momchilovich and cousins Robert, Diane and Lisa. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:15, to go to St. Camillus Church, where a mass will begin at 12:30 PM, with Father Anthony Sciarappa officiating.
