Clara Jane (Sinclair) Blair of New Castle passed away on September 13, 2026, at the Avalon Springs Care Center in Mercer. She was 100 years old.
Clara was born to John Boyd and Blanche (Lane) Sinclair, on May 27, 1926, on their farm near Allerton, Iowa. She was married to the Rev. S. Ray Blair of Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, on May 28, 1956. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Alice Herbert and Jean Skillings, and one brother, John Boyd Sinclair, Jr.
Clara attended Sunnyside Country School and Allerton High School, graduating in 1944. She continued her education at Tarkio College, in Tarkio, Missouri, and graduated with a degree in business education in 1948. She taught school in Cambria, Corydon, and Washington, Iowa, and also worked as a secretary for a local law firm and for the superintendent of the Washington School District. After her marriage, she handled secretarial duties for her husband and the churches he pastored. Following a move to Pennsylvania, Clara worked in the dean's office and library at Westminster College in New Wilmington from 1981 – 1993.
Clara was raised in the Associate Presbyterian Church and was a committed Christian and lifelong member of the Associate and Reformed Presbyterian Churches in Washington, Iowa, and Rose Point, Pennsylvania. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also an avid gardener, excelling at canning, freezing, and flower arranging from the fruits of her labors. She will be remembered for her faithfulness, devotion to her family, hospitality, sense of humor, and tremendous work ethic.
Clara is survived by three daughters: Dorinda McConnell (Jeffrey) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Heather Boucher (Donald) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Alorah Swansiger (Paul) of New Springfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren: Trevor McConnell, Alyssa Roth (Chip), Meghan Held (David), Donald Boucher, Colin McConnell, Melanie Boucher, Erin Owens (Ryan), Kara Swansiger and Sam Swansiger; and eight great-grandchildren: Annika, Phillip, Zaria, Titus, Adrien, Orianna, Jon Douglas and Emily. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Sinclair, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 19, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Herman Cemetery in Rimersburg.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rose Point R.P. Church, 1166 Church Alley, New Castle, PA 16101.
