Clara A. Markowitz, 89, formerly of 521 E. Moody Avenue, passed away the morning of November 17, 2010 in Golden Hill Nursing Home.Born July 4, 1921 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Peter and Josephine Smithkowski Mozgawa. She married Harold Markowitz on November 22, 1940. He preceded her in death June 1, 1985.Clara was employed with Shenango Pottery as a liner and a sales clerk for Strouss Department Store. She then was a cook for Meals on Wheels.She served on the Board of Elections for over 25 years in the Second Ward, Second Precinct. Clara won gold medals while participating in the Central PA Senior Olympics.Among her interests were crafts, gardening, canning, playing cards and traveling. She was a member of a Garden Club and the Ideal Hobby Club.She was a a member of Highland Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, where she was also a deacon.Survivors include one daughter, Sandra K. Lesz of Garden City, MI; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald A. and Rosemary Markowitz and Larry R. and Janet Markowitz all of New Castle; one sister, Elizabeth Reiber of Eastbrook, PA; seven grandchildren, Kimber and Dr. Hugh Shearer, Richard and Amy Markowitz, Jason Markowitz, Laura and Troy Boron, Robert and Barbara George, Robert and Jennie Lesz and Marnie and Billy DeWulf; and nine great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Mary Yanus.Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 20, 2010, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev.
