Cori Lyn Ketzel passed away suddenly and unexpectedly early on the morning of May 12, 2021. She was born October 19, 1977 in New Castle, PA. Cori was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Fred and Florence Schuster, maternal grandparents William and Irene Carver and her Aunt Shelley Carver. She is survived by her loving husband Philip J. Ketzel, and two sons Reid and Logan, her parents Daniel and Carol Schuster, and her brother Brian, sister-in-law Lia and their two sons, Father-in-law Charles Ketzel, mother in-law Lois Ketzel and sister-in-law Janet Ketzel. Cori graduated from Shenango High School in 1996, where she was active in participant in dance line and student council. Cori went on to study nursing at Carlow College where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing. After graduation she started her nursing career at St. Francis Hospital in New Castle, PA as a telemetry nurse and later transitioned to the labor and delivery department, where she had the opportunity and privilege to serve her community by bringing new lives into the world. Cori loved babies and kids. She had an unsurpassed passion for the patients trusted into her care. Following the closing of St. Francis, she went on to work at Jameson Hospital and later for several home health agencies, and her final position was working for the Pennsylvania Department of Health where she continued her service to the community. On June 2, 2001, Cori married Philip J. Ketzel of New Castle, PA and several years later after many years of challenges they began their family with the birth of their son in Reid in August of 2006 and followed by Logan a short two years later. Cori's greatest love in this world by far was her family, especially her loving sons Reid and Logan, which often referred to as her miracles. Cori enthusiastically and passionately supported every activity her sons would choose to participate in, from baseball to wrestling and everything in between. Cori proudly referred to herself as a "boy mom" and loved her boys fiercely. Cori was an ardent supporter of the Laurel Youth Wrestling program which the boys have participated in for several years. Cori has been described as the quintessential team mom to the Laurel Youth Wrestling program. She encouraged, comforted, cheered and genuinely cared for every kid on the team. Cori was always prepared for every situation and the kids and parents knew they could count on her for anything they might need from a snack between matches to a band-aid to cover up a scratch earned during a match. Cori was affectionately known by many of the kids as the "Pin Mom". A moniker that she proudly earned from the kids by providing the wrestlers with a safety pin with beads on it following a victory by win of a pin. Cori was a Christian and member of Faith Country Chapel Church in New Castle, PA where she had the opportunity to serve the Lord in the children's ministry department by directing the Vacation Bible School Program as well as serving on the Youth Ministry committee and attending Junior Camp as a chaperone and a nurse to the camp. In addition, Cori also took an active role at the Laurel School. Cori served on the Laurel PTO for several years, and proudly served as room mom for her boy's classes each year, and often take on the role as School Nurse during for field trips. While Cori was small in stature, she loved in a big way through her actions and passion for her family friends and community. In summary, my loving wife who was unexpectedly taken from this world way too soon, exhibited love to her family and those around her everyday of her life in one way or another she exhibited love through her actions professionally as a nurse, and in her greatest role in life as a mom to her two sons where her love was unbounded. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 from 5-8 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd, New Castle, PA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Russell Van Nest will officiate.
