Cynthia K. (Smolnik) Hoon, age 59, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 9, 2016 at her residence. Born on February 26, 1957 in New Castle, she was a daughter of John "Jack" and Katherine "Kay" Johns Smolnik. On June 4, 2005, she married Richard L. Hoon, who survives her at home. A 1975 graduate of Union High School, Cynthia began her employment with UPMC Jameson in the dietary department in 2001. Prior to that she was employed at NEPPCO and McDonald's. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a wrestling fan, as well as a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Besides her parents and husband, she is survived by one son, Ethan Smolnik of New Castle; two sisters, Jacqulyn (TJ) McAnallen of Henderson, Nevada, and Susan (Don) Friend of New Castle; two nieces; and one nephew. Preceding her in death are her grandparents. Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 noon on Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 12 noon on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Thom Scott officiating. The family asks that memorial contributions be made in Cynthia's name to Wesley United Methodist Church, 1204 West Washington Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
