Dale R. Anderson, 89, of 1741 East Brook Road, died January 16, 2013 at his residence.Mr. Anderson was born November 17, 1923 in New Castle to Carl and Elizabeth Oberg Anderson. They preceded him in death. A veteran of World War II, he served overseas with the Eighth Air Force during 1943-1945. His rank was that of Corporal. Mr. Anderson worked for North American Aviation, Inglewood, California, the National Malleable Steel and Iron Castings Company, Sharon, Pennsylvania before beginning his apprenticeship into the printing trades with Universal Printing Company where he worked for 23 years. He then began a teaching career, which lasted for 20 years at the Youth Development Center, from where he retired in June of 1990. His subject was The Graphic Arts. He developed an offset printing and photographic program which included the school newspaper, The Rapper. His students were known for their wide editorial opinion, journalistic style and their 3 and 4 color reproductions. He was proud of his memberships in the Printer's, Steelworker's and Teacher's Unions. Other memberships included: The American Humanist Association and The American Civil Liberties Union, both for more than 40 years. Over the years he supported many civil rights, women's rights and anti-war movements. Mr. Anderson was also a life time member of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association and the Freedom from Religion Foundation. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathlene and Michael Anderson Kash of Ashtabula, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Gloria Anderson of New Castle; a sister, Betty Leslie of New Castle; a brother and sister-in-law, Linn and Sieglinde Anderson of New Castle; and a grandson Carl (CJ) Anderson of Pittsburgh. Visiting hours were for the immediate family only as Mr. Anderson requested. Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
