Obituary

Daniel "Doc" Benincase, age 73 of New Castle, passed away the evening of January 25, 2020 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, in Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 2, 1946, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Pasquale & Irene (Klenotic) Benincase. He married the former Cindy Lynn Powell on May 31, 1980. She survives at home. Mr. Benincase was a graduate of New Castle High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army, serving his country in Vietnam from 1967-1968, as well as serving in the Army Reserves for 18 years. Dan worked at Rockwell on the assembly line for many years. He was an avid antique car collector and was a member of the Rapid Tappets and Wampum Cruisers Car Clubs. He enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers and serving as a former commander of the local VFW post 315. Dan also served in the New Castle Area Honor Guard and was a member of the local American Legion post 343. What gave Dan the most joy in life, was spending time with his friends and his family, especially his two beautiful granddaughters, who he often referred to as the apple of his eye. He loved to laugh and was always there to lend a helping hand or kind words of advice, to anyone who needed them. In addition to his wife, Cindy, Dan is survived by two sons, Joseph (Joey) Benincase and Daniel (Danny) and his wife, Stephanie Benincase, all of New Castle; one brother, Ronald Benincase of New Castle, two sisters, Patricia Brice and Barbara Cavelli, both of New Castle, and two granddaughters, Gianna and Aubrey Benincase, also of New Castle. Along with his parents, Dan was preceded in death by one brother, John Benincase. Visitation will be held on Wed. Jan. 29 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will take place at 8:00 pm with full military rites given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be offered to the local VFW, 1820 E. Washington St. New Castle, Pa., 16101 or the local American Legion, 134 N. Jefferson St., New Castle, Pa., 16101.
