Daniel F. Wellman, age 70, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of March 13, 2016 at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family.
Born October 2, 1945 in New Castle, he was the son of John and Catherine Gardner Wellman.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Henle Wellman, whom he married May 25, 1968.
A 1964 graduate of Laurel High School, Dan served in the Army National Guard for 7 years as a Staff Sergeant.
After his 24 year employment at Rockwell International as an inspector, Dan gained employment with Hilti Inc. until his retirement in 2007.
He was a member of the Lodge of the Craft Westminster, No.433 and a 32nd Degree Mason. He previously served as Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master. He was also a member of the Castle Pistol Club and both the Colonial Lanes and Sim's bowling leagues.
Among his many interests, Dan enjoyed collecting coins, hunting, bowling, golf, softball and classic cars.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by two daughters, Leann (Gerald) Chieze and Kelly (Brandon) D'Augostine of New Castle; one son, Daniel Wellman of New Castle; two brothers, John Wellman of Arizona, and Simon D. Wellman of New Castle; three sisters, Catherine "Tootsie" Humphrey of Texas, Shirley Thompson of Pulaski, and Georgette Dorsey of New Castle; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Chieze and Marleah D'Augostine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Sandra Vogan, Rose Petronelis, Bonnie Fair, and Patty Hite.
In keeping with Daniel's wishes, there will be no calling hours with a private memorial service officiated by Rev. Randy Crum.
