Darryl L. Smith, 70, of New Castle, PA , went to be with the Lord the morning of May 27, 2017. Darryl was born October 16, 1946, in New Castle, to the late Clifford C. and Violet I Braithwaite Smith. He married the former Christie Ann Taylor on May 10, 1968. She survives. Mr. Smith worked in the shipping/receiving department at NALCO for 46 years. He graduated from Shenango High School and proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La during the Vietnam War. Darryl was a dedicated Veteran of the Shenango Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Lynn and Thomas Dess, of New Castle; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Raschelle Smith, of New Castle; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas E. and Nancy Smith , of Mountain View, AR; on brother-in-law, Willard Houk; one aunt, Linda McGuire of Beaver, PA and 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonah, Jordan, Reagan and Carter. Darryl was preceded in passing by his parents and his sister, Barbara Houk. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:00 am at Harmony Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff McKay and Rev. James Hockenberry will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Harmony Baptist Church, 4103 Ellwood Rd., New Castle, PA 16101.
