Obituary

David G. Book of Neshannock Township passed away on May 21, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. David was born July 15, 1946 to George and Claire (Galloway) Book who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Shirley (Sickafuse) Book; his daughter, Bonnie Book of Santiago, Chile; and his stepsons, Todd (Kim) Gajda of Hilliard, Ohio and Doug Gajda of Wilmington Township. He is also survived by grandsons, Tyler Gajda, Jacob Gajda and Daniel Gajda and one brother, John (Nancy) Book. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Book, and an infant sister, Sally Book. David was a Christian and member of Clen-Moore Church where he served as an elder. He often taught Sunday school and Prime Timers. He had God in his heart. David was a long-time resident of Wilmington Township where he served as a township auditor and was active in the New Wilmington Kiwanis. He was also a member of the Elks Club and had served as chair of the scholarship committee. David was a 1964 graduate of Laurel High School. He attended Clarion University on a football scholarship and earned a BS in education. He earned a master's degree in Economics at Slippery Rock University. David retired from New Castle High School where he taught history and economics and served as a chair of the history department. He was also the owner of a painting contract business. David was well known for his quick wit. He had many close friends and enjoyed spending time with them and with his large family. He also enjoyed his Thursday Breakfast group, playing cards with his friends and riding motorcycles. He and Shirley loved to travel, both domestic and international, as well as dancing, bicycling and canoeing. David will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. Visitation will be held 12:30-2:00 PM on July 9, 2021 at Clen-Moore Church. A Memorial Service will be held immediately following at Clen-Moore Church on July 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
