Obituary

David E. Evans, 72, of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 24, 2020 at Quality Life Services of Grove City. Born April 11, 1948 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Walter S. and Geraldine F. (Fest) Evans. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet (Oar) Evans, whom he married October 29, 1974. David received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Duquesne University and continued his education at Slippery Rock University where he obtained his Master of Arts Degree in Counseling. After completing his education, he gained employment with the Youth Development Center in New Castle as a counselor for 28 years where he helped hundreds of kids live better lives. In addition, he was a pyrotechnic operator with Pyrotecnico Fireworks Company for 33 years where he made beautiful explosions in the sky. David was active with Challenges Options in Aging where he enjoyed playing poker and spending time with his buddies. Among other interests he liked golf, fishing and rooting for all Pittsburgh sports teams. Most of all he loved his family. He was best known and proud to be called Dad, Grandpa Dave and Grampy. He was so proud of his sons Mike and Matt, with every phone call ending with him reminding them to "work hard." David also dearly loved his wife, Janet, every day of their 45 years together. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mike (Winona) Evans of Eagan, MN and Matt (Lauren) Evans of Mars, PA; four grandchildren, Grace Abigail Evans of Eagan, Elizabeth Josephine Evans of Mars, Olivia Geraldine Evans of Mars and James Walter Evans of Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Scott Evans. A private service will be held for the family at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle with the Rev. David A. Snyder officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.cunninghamfh.com
