David E. Hackett, 77, of 7116 Andre Court, Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away May 28, 2013 at Brookdale Place at Willow Lake in Indianapolis. Born June 23, 1935 in New Castle, he was a son of Edward Carl Hackett and Mary Sharp Hackett. He was preceded in death earlier this year on March 21, 2013 by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth A. Alford Hackett, whom he married October 18, 1958. He was a Shenango High School graduate and was employed by Penn Power Company as a safety director. In earlier years he was active in the Neshannock Athletic Association and served on the board of the American Red Cross. David was a real outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting and fishing, canoeing, hiking, and rollerblading. He was a member of the Castlewood Rod and Gun Club and Ducks Unlimited. David was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He is survived by two sons, Dean Hackett and wife Lena of Indianapolis, IN and Douglas Hackett and wife Linda of Fort Washington, PA; and 5 grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Hackett Brown. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Andrew Jillson. Burial will be in Neshannock U.P. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Lawrence County Chapter, 222 North Mercer Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
