David E. Harlan, age 89, of New Castle, passed away at Southpoint at Jameson the 23rd of June, 2016. Born March 31, 1927 in New Castle, he was the son of Roland and Viola Patton Harlan. He was preceded in death on November 20, 2007 by his loving wife of 57 years, Gladys Buehler Harlan, whom he married on January 14, 1950. A graduate of Princeton High School, he served his country during WWII from 1945-1946 in the U.S.Navy as a Seaman Second Class. David was employed as a structural ironworker with Youngstown Ironworkers Local #207 for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, and of First Alliance Church. David loved spending time with his family. He is survived by one son, David W. Harlan and his wife Jeannie, of New Castle; two sisters, Carol Brown of Mocksville, NC and Norma Seppanen of Nisula, MI; three grandchildren, Brent (Becky) Harlan and Brandon(Susan) Harlan all of New Castle, and Ashley (Ben) Roethlisberger of Pittsburgh; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Harlan, in 1995. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Philip Harrison officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
