David William Johns III, age 89 of New Castle, passed away on July 31, 2020, at Carriage Manor.
Born Feb. 8, 1931, in New Castle, he was the son of the late David William and Katherine Johns II.
On Dec. 8, 1952, he married his beloved wife of 66 years, Shirley Jean (Saxton) Johns. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2019.
David was a graduate of New Castle High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. David worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 40 years as a steelworker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, singing, watching westerns and his dogs. What gave him the most joy in life was spending time with his family. David was involved in the Penn Ohio singing group and his church choir. He was a faithful member of New Covenant Church.
David is survived by one daughter, Elena L. Harding and her husband, William of New Castle; two sons, David W. Johns, IV and wife Debra and Gerald R. Johns and wife Doris all of New Castle; one sister, Betty Macek of Bessemer, PA; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, David is preceded in death by siblings, one brother and four sisters.
In keeping with his wishes, private services were held for the immediate family. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
