Obituary

David A. McCallister, 86, of New Castle, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on August 3, 2026.

Born July 3, 1940, in New Castle, David lived a life characterized by faith, hard work, humor, and a deep love for his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Louanna, to whom he was married for 59 years; his children Todd (Lisa) McCallister, Christopher (Dawn) McCallister, and Courtney (Doug) Anderson; and his grandchildren, Brandon McCallister, Kaityln (Cameron) Marett, Dakota Anderson, Sienna Anderson, Cody (Hannah) Hamer, Connor (Kristin) Hamer; and great-grandchild, Hayes Hamer.

David was a faithful member of Neshannock Presbyterian church for many years and most recently at Castlewood Christian & Missionary Alliance, where his love for Jesus Christ shaped the way, he lived. He was known for his quick wit, easy smile, his laughing eyes, and a willingness to lend a helping hand. He spent countless hours building and rebuilding engines for family and friends and working on cars in general. He also had a lifelong passion for his cherished 1960 Chevrolet Corvette; a car so legendary that some jokingly wondered if it was more myth than reality. We will finish it, Dad!

A devoted servant of his community, David faithfully served on the Lawrence County Fair Board for 30 years and continued volunteering and supporting the fair for another 3 years after retiring from the board. Also, numerous decades as a Hickory Township Volunteer Fire fighter and Hickory Township Zoning Officer. His quiet dedication and willingness to serve left a lasting impact on the Lawrence County Community.

Above all, David loved his family. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, and his kindness, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 7th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 6:00 PM with David’s son, Todd McCallister, officiating.

Though his family grieves his passing, they rejoice in the sure hope found in Jesus Christ. David loved his Savior, and his faith has become sight as he rests in the presence of the One he faithfully served.
