David Michael Melder, age 89, of New Castle, PA, passed away the early morning of Aug. 20, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born April 1, 1937, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late John and Ann (Doyle) Melder.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, the former, Janet Marie Volpe.

Dave was a proud United States Army Veteran. He was a New Castle High School graduate and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University. Throughout his career, Dave worked as a salesperson for Xerox and later for North City Motors, where he was known for his friendly personality and ability to connect with others. A lifelong sports fan, Dave especially enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren. Their sporting events were among his favorite things, and he could often be found proudly cheering them on, from the stands. Dave was a faithful member of the Catholic faith and attended St. Camillus Church.

In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by three daughters, Leslie (Al) Pisula, Lorena L. (Jamie) Abercrombie, Dana (Chip) Barclay, four sisters, Elizabeth Aiello, Kathleen (Jim) Stewart, Mary Ann (Walt) Nelson, and Rita (John) Torgerson; eight grandchildren, Jamie (Sarah), Brooke (Matt), Donny (Brea), Jack (Jess), Ben (Emily), David, Tommy (Laia) & Sarah; and thirteen great grandchildren, Ava, Cooper, Tyler, Livi, Brynn, Juliette, Vivienne, Cruz, Bella, Quinn, Elle & Betsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack, and Bob Melder and one grandchild, Beau Barclay.

Visitation will be held on Sunday Aug. 23rd from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A mass will take place on Monday Aug. 24th at 10:30 AM at St. Camillus Church – Holy Spirit Parish, 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, with Father John Ferguson, officiating.

Burial will be at St. Vitus Cemetery.
