Dawn E. Sankey, 67, of Mt. Jackson Road, passed away the morning of March 21, 2018 at her residence. Born September 12, 1950 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Lee L Dexter and Shirley Shay Murdock DeStefano. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, John C. Sankey, whom she married March 28, 1992. A New Castle High School graduate, Dawn attended the Wilma Boyd School of Business and Travel. She was employed with Dairy Queen as a cake decorator. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and cake decorating. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. An active member of New Castle Bible Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and deaconess. She also played the piano and organ and participated in Bible studies. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one step-daughter, Melissa OShane of Oakmont, PA; a step-son, Brian Sankey of Edinburg, PA; and two step-grandchildren, Aidan and Hadley OShane. Dawn was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Vaughn L. Dexter. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 26, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at New Castle Bible Church, 2762 W. State Street, New Castle, PA. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation on Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Max Bungard officiating.
