Dean P. Boak, age 85, of Pulaski Twp., passed away the evening of March 30, 2022, at his residence. Born Jan. 13, 1937, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Lester P. and Virginia R. (Dean) Boak. On July 24, 1959, he married his beloved wife of 58 years, Carol (Ridgley) Boak. She preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2017. Dean faithfully served his country in the United States Army, 11th Airborne Division, earning his ranking as a Corporal. After basic training in Fort Jackson, SC, he went onto Fort Campbell, KY, where he participated in Advanced Infantry & Jump School, where he completed 28 jumps before being stationed in Munich Germany. For 34 years, Dean was employed by the City of New Castle, as Fire Chief, retiring in 1999. As a certified fire instructor, Dean conducted several classes on the fundamentals of firefighting for the city department and taught courses in handling hazardous materials for fireman, police, New Castle Transit Authority, and emergency medical personnel. He also taught classes for the Annual Lawrence County Fire School. He belonged to several organizations in Lawrence County, such at the Local #160 IAFF, Lawrence Co. Fair Board, Jaycees, Lower East Side Housing Optimist, where he served as past president, the Lower East Side Concerned Citizens Organization, and was the last founding member of the Ray Street LACG "Lazy Ass Corner Gang". Dean worked with Little League for 6 years as a manager, coach, and commissioner of the National League at Dean Park. He and his Carol wintered in their home in Fort Myers, FL, for 18 years, before Carol's passing. Most of all, Dean loved the time he spent with his family. He was also a member of the former Second U.P. Church. Survivors include two daughters, Jodi A. Boak and Jennifer A. (John) Owen of New Castle; one son, Jay C. Boak of Pulaski; a son-in-law, William Stockdill of New Castle; a brother-in-law, Charles J. (Margi) Ridgley of Cranberry, PA; one sister, Patricia Rotz; five grandchildren, Jesse Dean Boak, Taylor R. Boak Burgess, Carolyn P. Boak, Shawn Stockdill and Bradley Stockdill; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Niklaus. In addition to his parents and his wife Carol, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeannie Stockdill and a sister, Judy White. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a 6:00 service at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. Rev. Richard Byerly of Mahoning Presbyterian Church and Pastor Karen Heasley will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
