Dennis D. Metz, 70, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away the morning of January 8, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Born May 3, 1943 in Connellsville, PA, he was a son of John P. and Dorothy M. Reshenberg Metz. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet McWilliams Metz, whom he married February 28, 1968. He was a 1961 graduate of New Castle High School. Dennis was an accountant most of his life, being employed with several companies including Howland Industries, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Canfield Steel and Universal Rundle. Dennis was a three year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a SP-4 in the army finance corp in Gissen, Germany, until honorably discharged in 1964. He was a life member of B.P.O. Elks #69 in New Castle and member of V.F.W. Post #4192 in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. Dennis was a former member of Croton United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and Scott Smith of McDonald, Ohio and Gretchen and Steve Dorn of Florence, KY; one brother, Ronald Metz of New Castle; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, Ohio.
