Obituary

Diane Bowden, 81, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of June 1, 2021 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born June 28, 1939 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Joseph E. and Elizabeth (Thompson) Lockley. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald A. Bowden, whom she married May 17, 1958. A 1957 graduate of Laurel High School, Diane was a homemaker. Because of her love for children, she also ran a day care in her home where she took loving care of many children over the years who grew to love her dearly. Diane and Don were antique dealers for 14 years, traveling to antique shows, where they built many friendships. Together with her husband, they cherished the time spent at their camp in the mountains of Warren County. She was an avid reader, local history buff, enjoyed refinishing furniture and was an animal lover. What she valued most was attending any events her grandchildren were involved in. Diane was a lifetime active member of St. John's Lutheran Church for 81 years where she served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Cheryl Diane (Gary) Finley of New Castle, Michelle (John) Dobi of Ellwood City and Chrisanne Bowden (Chuck Christenson) of Fairfield, PA; one son, Donald A. (Pamela) Bowden, Jr. of New Castle; three brothers, David Lockley of Tennessee, James Lockley of Oak Island, NC and Timothy Lockley of New Castle; five grandchildren, Randy (Mayra) Lambright, Jr., Kyle (Olivia Quinn) Lambright, Joshua Bowden, Ryan Bowden and Laura Bowden; two great-grandchildren, Kurt Lambright and Elena Lambright. She is also survived by an exchange student they hosted from 1976-1977, Anne – Kjersti Nymo of Jessheim, Norway, whom she considered a daughter. Diane will also be missed by her loving miniature poodle, Benny. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joseph Lockley and Douglas Lockley. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 5, from 10:00-12:00 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2601 Highland Avenue, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 12:00 with the Rev. David A. Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by the R.
