Obituary

Dolores "Lenny" M. Wilson, 85, of 109 Rutgers Drive, New Castle, died July 3, 2012. She was born in Chicago on December 21, 1926, to Henry and Delvina Savageau Manseau. As a teenager, she was the single student from her high school selected to attend a special program at the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduating from Marshall High School in 1944, Mrs. Wilson worked as a secretary and legal assistant. During this time, she meet her husband Norman L. Wilson, Jr., and they were married in Chicago on July 17, 1948. Their honeymoon- a 40 mile canoe trip- set the tone for their adventurous life together.In their early years, Mrs. Wilson and husband Norm lived in Indiana, where they had their first child while Norman completed his education at Wabash College. They then moved to a series of places, including New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Mississippi, where their second daughter was born. Finally, in 1955 they settled down in New Castle, where their son was born. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Chruch, where she participated in several church organizations, including the Tri-M class, Prime Timers, and the Session. She generously donated her artistic talents and exceptional sewing and quilting skills to many good causes-including the creation of scenery and costumes for church productions, original pieces of work for the Jameson Hospital Guild,and numerous flower arrangements and gardens with the Walmo Garden Club. Mrs. Wilson was a dynamic, athletic person, sociable in nature with a propensity for fun! Tennis, racquetball, ping pong, Scrabble, board games, and card games were always a part of her life. She also enjoyed camping, canoeing, hiking, biking and outdoor adventures. She was a constant source of entertainment, food, and laughter for her husband, children and grandchildren. Her empathetic ear and interest in others made her a good conversationalist to all she met.Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly sixty years, Norman.Mrs. Wilson is survived by two daughters, Barbara and husband Bob Lowstetter of Houston TX, Joan and husband Ken Clark of Chattanooga TN; one son Norman L. Wilson III of Mercer PA; five grandchildren, Annie and husband John David Ickes of Houston TX, Julie and husband Roberto Huerto of Houston TX, Nathan Clark and Lisa Clark of Portland OR, Lenny Wilson of Mercer PA; two great grandchildren, Luke and Eli Ickes of Houston TX.Visitation for Mrs. Wilson will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle PA.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. New Castle, conducted by Rev. Chris Weichman of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, New Castle. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, 220 Clen-Moore Blvd. New Castle PA 16105 or the City Rescue Mission, 319 S.Croton Ave. New Castle PA 16101.
