Donald C. Furlong, 88, of Shenango Township, passed away the morning of February 19, 2017 at his residence. Born December 26, 1928 in New Castle, he was the son of Clyde and Deloris Collingwood Furlong. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marge Dodds Furlong, whom he married October 23, 1948. After his 1947 graduation from Shenango High School, Donald attended college in California. Donald worked for Singer Corp. as an engineer until he gained employment with Arral Industries, Inc. in Ontario, CA until his retirement in 1996. Among his many interests, he enjoyed reading about WWII, fishing, and spending time with his family. Don was an avid golfer, frequenting the Mohawk Trails Golf Course and was a member of several golf leagues. An active member of Third Presbyterian Church, he served as a Deacon, usher, and member of the Crusaders Sunday school class. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Joy Furlong Bowers of California; two sons, John (Becky) Furlong and Jim (Lori) Furlong, all of California; two sisters, Joan Johnson of New Castle and Jackie Powell of California; one sister-in-law, Audrey Dodds-Hromyak of Pa.; 3 grandchildren, Kelly Roberts Childers, Anthony Furlong, and Andrew (Jenna) Furlong; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 niece and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Friday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Becky Branch officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Cemetery.
