Donald L. Goodknight, 94, of New Castle went home to be with his Lord and Savior the morning of Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born in Beaver Falls, PA on September 8, 1922, he was a son of Russell L. and Haddassah M. Carothers Goodknight.
On August 25, 1950 he married his beloved wife, the former Jeanne H. Roberts. She survives him at home.
A graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Don then served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. He retired in 1984 from New Castle Battery Mfg. Co. He was also a co owner of R. L. Goodknight and Son Garage in Harlansburg where he worked with his father for twenty-three years. During that time he also drove school bus for Laurel Area School District. Don continued working part time until the age of 89 for various businesses in New Castle. He helped organize and was a member of the Scott Township Volunteer Department. He also served on the Laurel School Board for six years.
A member of First Baptist Church, he served as a trustee and an usher.
Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Deanna (Jeff) Sunderman of Volant and Joyce (David) Piper of New Castle; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 16 at 3:00 at First Baptist Church, 984 W. Maitland Lane, New Castle with Rev. John Yergan officiating.
Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery.
