Obituary

Donald M. Hanna, age 88 of Volant, passed away peacefully the afternoon of September 16, 2019, at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care Facility. Born April 1, 1931, in New Castle, he was the son to the late Leonard L. Hanna, who died bravely fighting for our country in World War II, and Ruth (Thompson) Hanna Patton. He married his beloved wife, Marilyn (McKee) Hanna on August 25, 1950. She survives at home. Mr. Hanna was a graduate of Eastbrook High School and Geneva College, where he earned his degree in Industrial Engineering. He was enrolled in the United States Marine Corp and served in the Korean Conflict. Donald worked at Rockwell International in the Spring Division and at TRW in Harrisburg, Pa. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was involved in Ducks Unlimited and was a member of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church. What gave Donald the most joy in life, was spending time with his family and at his camp in Sheffield, PA. Along with his wife, Marilyn, Donald is survived by three daughters, Susan Hanna of Harrisburg, PA; Janet (Ken) Schooley and Nancy (Marty) Post, both of New Castle, PA; one son, T. Michael (Felicia) Hanna of Sterling, VA; one brother, Wayne Hanna of FL; eight grandchildren, Joshua Hanna, Trevor Hanna, Lavanya Hanna, Troy (Karla) Schooley, Trisha (Greg) Huston, Trena (Shane) Miller, Cody (Elizabeth) Post, Casey (Georgia) Post and nine great-grandchildren, Trey, Reese and Kenley Schooley, Grace and Grant Huston, and McKenna, Adelynn, Brielle and Easton Miller. Along with his parents, preceding him death are one brother, John Hanna, one sister, Marge Book and one daughter-in-law Diane Hanna. Visitation will be held on Wed. from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thurs. at 11:00 AM with Jason Schepp of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church, officiating. Full Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be at Briar Hill Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be offered to Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 and Eastbrook Presbyterian Church, 3727 State Road, New Castle, PA 16101.
