Donald S. Lutz, 93, formerly of Union Township, passed away the night of January 4, 2020 at Clen-Moore Place in New Castle. Born October 10, 1926 in New Castle, he was the son of Clare M. and Thelma M. (Roberts) Lutz. He was preceded in death on April 5, 2010 by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley M. (McNicholas) Lutz, whom he married on June 19, 1948. A graduate of New Castle High School, Don served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 38 years until his retirement when he began working for the R. Cunningham Funeral Home for 17 years. Among his many interests, he enjoyed golf, exercising and playing cornhole. Spending time with his family and often vacationing together with them was his greatest joy. Don had a love for the Lord and was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as an elder, deacon emeritus and past Sunday School Superintendent among many things. Don is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Harold) Glenn of Slippery Rock, Deb J. (Rick) of Duluth, MN, and Lori A. (Brian) Kauffman of New Castle; two sons, Edward D. (Marlane) Lutz of New Castle and Philip R. (Kathy) Lutz of New London, MN; two brothers, Dewey C. Lutz and Kenneth (Peggy) Lutz of New Castle; one sister, Janet (Wayne) McCormick of New Castle; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruthie Lutz, Bettie McMillin and Doris Benke; and two brothers, Eugene and Robert Lutz. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, from 4:00-7:00pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle and Friday from 10:00-11:00am at First Baptist Church, 984 W. Maitland Lane, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 am at the church with the Rev Philip Lutz, Rev. Jeremy Lutz and Rev. John Yergan officiating.
