Donald J. Perdue, age 95, of Shenango Township, passed away the morning of March 1, 2016 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born August 15, 1920 in New Castle, he was a son of James A. and Edna Houk Perdue. He was preceded in death on February 2, 2009 by his wife of 61 years, Ruth M. Stoner Perdue, whom he married April 26, 1947. After attending Shenango High School, Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he served in the Pacific Theatre. During that time he obtained the rank of Corporal and achieved five arrow heads, a bronze star and one oak leaf cluster. He was employed with U.S. Steel as a crane operator. Donald was a member of the VFW Post 315 and the Castlewood Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was an active member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. He is survived by one daughter, Linda J. (William) Miller of Portersville, Pa; two sons, Kenneth J. Perdue and Robert L. Perdue, both of New Castle; two grandchildren, Barbara L. (David) Richardson and Timothy D. (Vicky) Miller; five great-granddaughters, Suzen, Phoebe and Ava Richardson, and Megan and Leanna Miller; and one step-great grandson, Ezrah Richardson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Edith M. Timblin, and four brothers, Ralph A., Edgar W., J. Richard, and Gerald R. Perdue. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Judy Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
