Donald E. Smith, 73, of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 25, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital.Born July 14, 1940 in New Castle, he was a son of Walter J. and Ruth E. Potts Smith.Donald was a graduate of New Castle High School and served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician's Mate.He was employed over 30 years with the Pennsylvania-American Water Company, retiring as a plant operator.He is survived by two daughters, Pattianne Williams of Richeyville, PA, and Jodi (Michael) Procopio of New Castle; two sons, Edward Smith of Struthers, Ohio and Kenneth (Jody) Smith of New Castle; one brother, James Smith, of Prospect, PA; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Smith, and a sister, Shirley Francis.In keeping with Mr. Smith's wishes, there will be no calling hours.A private burial was held at Graceland Cemetery.Arrangements are being handled by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
