Donna S. Davies, 83, of Shenango on the Green, New Wilmington, formerly of Manor Road, New Castle, passed away the night of September 6, 2014 at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington, surrounded by her loving family.Born August 19, 1931 in Sharon, PA, she was the daughter of Donald A. Stewart and Virginia M. Howard Stewart Vessella.Donna married Walter O. Davies on March 22, 1974. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1995.She graduated from New Castle High School in 1949; Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952; University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science in nursing in 1956; and Duquesne University with a master's degree in nursing in 1960.Donna was employed by Jameson Memorial Hospital from 1967-1995. She was director of the School of Nursing from 1967-1977, director of nursing affairs from 1977-1979, vice president of nursing services from 1979-1981, senior vice president from 1981-1989, and vice president for quality assurance and risk management. From 1956-1967 she worked at Duquesne University. She was an instructor from 1956-1959, an assistant professor from 1959-1964, associate professor from 1964-1967 as director of the registered nurse program. From 1952-1956 Donna served as a staff nurse at Children's Hospital, Western Psychiatric Hospital and Institute, Southside Hospital in Youngstown and Northside Hospital in Youngstown.Donna was a member of the National League of Nursing, Pennsylvania League for Nursing, National Association for Q. A. Professionals, Hospital Association of Pennsylvania, Sigma Theta Tau, Inc., Epsilon Phi Chapter.She served on the board of directors for Lawrence County Human Services, where she was past president, New Castle Business and Professional Women, where she served on the board of directors, president, recording secretary and was selected BPW Woman of the Year in 1987.She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, New Castle Chapter #105; Wimodausis, New Castle Chapter; Jameson-Shenango Alumni Association; and Walmo Lioness Club, serving as president.A member of Third Presbyterian Church, Donna served as an elder and a deacon.Donna is survived by a brother, William Howard Stewart of New Wilmington, two nephews, William H. Stewart, Jr., of Sunbury, PA, and Bruce John Stewart of Stroudsburg, PA; three nieces, Pamela Jean Scott of Hermitage, Virginia Ellen Pierson of Clarksburg, MD, and Kimberly Ann Brodish of Moon Township, PA; eight grand nieces, six grand nephews; and three great grand nephews.In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jacob Vessella.Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held Friday, September 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Spicuzza will officiate. Burial will be at Castle View Gardens.
