Donna J. McFarland, lifelong resident of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. She was born September 16, 1928 in New Castle to Cecil R. and Blanche A. Cooley Potter. She attended New Castle High School and Youngstown Cosmetology School. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Kenneth D. Mac McFarland, whom she married June 24, 1950. Donna formerly worked as a hair dresser and also was employed at G.C. Murphy Company. She loved playing cards and was a former member of the Melody Afternoon Bowling League. She enjoyed being with family, especially her great-grandchildren and loved her dogs. Donna was a former member of Third Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where she served as a Deacon. Recently she attended New Life Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Jack) Abranovich of New Castle and Kimberly (Charlie) Cyrus of Mt. Jackson; one son, Kenneth R. (Alyce) McFarland of Brighton, MI; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Katie, Zachary, Casey and Karlie; and 5 great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Olivia, Elliot, Carter and Caleb. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gerald and Harry Potter. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours.
