Donna L. Volkman, age 78, of Shenango Township, passed away the evening of May 2, 2021, at Avalon Place, in New Castle. Born Sept. 18, 1942 in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Gladys (Stivers) Schmidt. On Sept 18, 1965, she married her husband of 23 years, Donald L. Volkman, who preceded her in death in 1988. Donna was a graduate of Perry High School. For several years, she was a secretary for Mercy Behavioral Health. Donna loved all Pittsburgh sports, but she loved the Steelers, most of all. Bingo, shopping, and spending time with her family, were some of her favorite things to do. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Donna was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include one son, Donald (Crystal) Volkman of New Castle; one brother, Harold Schmidt of McCandless, PA; one sister Cheryl (Pedro) Bertran of Dallas TX; one son-in-law, Marty Bezila; niece and nephew, Peter and Stephanie Bertran; five grandchildren, Jessica (Volkman) Edmiston, Justin Volkman, Rachel Volkman, Martina (Volkman) Shelton and Brady Bezila; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Bezila. Visitation will be held on Thurs. May 6th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Jordan Rimmer officiating. All CDC guidelines will be in place in regard to wearing masks and social distancing. Due to CDC Pennsylvania guidelines, there may be limited access due to room capacity.
