Doris E. Kirkwood, 95, formerly of Adams Street, passed away the morning of October 27, 2019 at Jameson Care Center. Born October 22, 1924 in Ellwood City, PA, she was the daughter of Archie and Mildred (Jacobs) Stiefel. She was preceded in death on October 1, 2000 by her loving husband of 54 years, Jackson T. Kirkwood, whom she married January 30, 1946. After her graduation in 1942 from Lincoln High School, Doris attended New Castle School of Nursing until 1945. She furthered her nursing education by taking coronary care and intensive care course in Dayton, Ohio and was employed as a Registered Nurse with both St. Francis and Jameson Hospitals. Among her interests, Doris enjoyed reading, working puzzles and camping. She attended First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Barbara Kirkwood of New Castle; one brother, Eugene Stiefel of Ellwood City; three grandchildren, Tennille Williams, Amber James and Nicole Hohn; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parent and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James A. Kirkwood; a daughter, Jeanne Kirkwood; and one sister, Phyllis Wilson. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A burial will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
