Doris Nene, 91, formerly of Hickory Township, passed away the morning of September 9, 2020 at Haven Convalescent Home.
Born December 31, 1928 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Byron and Mary Louise (Bilger) Patterson.
She was preceded in death on March 9, 2007 by her husband of 54 years, Anthony P. Nene, whom she married March 6, 1953.
A graduate of Eastbrook High School, Doris attended St. Francis School of Nursing and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Slippery Rock University. Doris was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
She was employed as a registered nurse with St. Francis Hospital, PARC and most recently Ellwood City School District until her retirement in 1986.
Doris enjoyed singing and sang for several weddings as well as with the Sweet Adelines. A life member of East Brook United Methodist Church, she also sang with the church choir.
She is survived by three daughters, Joanne Nene (Dave Dougherty) and Diane (Dan) Reiber of New Castle and Jill (Mike) Marburger of Harmony; two sons, Douglas A. Nene of New Castle and Jeffery D. (Lisa) Nene of Springfield, MO; one sister, Carol (William) Sickafuse of New Castle; 13 grandchildren, Lindsay Babbitt, Michael Nene, Jacob Edwards, Drew Edwards, Isabella Nene, Corina Dougherty, David Dougherty, Rebecca Lopuchovsky, Meredith Cochran, Cameron Marburger, Brady Marburger, Michelle Hill, and Jamie Offutt; and 18 great-grandchildren, Braeden Davis, Xannder Holmes, Addison Eury, Brooklyn Eury, Cade Nene, Miles Babbitt, Harper Nene, Nora Babbitt, Adrienne Offutt, Addison Offutt, Wil Offutt, Jameson Hill, Charlie Hill, Jackson Offutt, Evelyn Cochran, Gabriel Cochran, Charlotte Marburger and Enzo Moore
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Nene and two brothers, Robert E. Patterson and William "Jud" Patterson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, from 4:00-8:00 at East Brook United Methodist Church, 2412 Eastbrook Road, New Castle, PA.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 at the church with the Rev. Loren McQueen officiating.
Visitors are asked to adhere to CDC guidelines regarding wearing face masks and practicing social distancing.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Brook United Methodist Church.
