Doris J. Walter,88, of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 9, 2015 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. Born September 17, 1926 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Clair and Ethel Eaiken Shingledecker. She was preceded in death on October 8, 1951 by her husband, Karl G."Rudy" Walter, whom she married on October 30, 1948. She was a high school graduate. Doris was employed as a salesclerk and a bookkeeper at The Jodi Shop in New Castle. Among her many interests, she enjoyed crossword puzzles. Doris is survived by one son and daughter in law, Karl L. and Marilyn Walter of New Castle; one brother, John Shingledecker of New Castle; 2 grandchildren, Robert (Kendra) Walter of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Misty Lyn (Merle) Cunningham of New Castle; and 1 great-grandchild, Jesse Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation, Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
