Dorothy Marie Mohan Sankey Bennett, 68, of New Castle passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. She had been a resident of the Overlook Nursing Home in New Wilmington.Dorothy was born Dec. 26, 1943 in Pittsburgh. The daughter of Leslie L. Mohan and Edna Woods Mohan, she was one of a family of 12 children.Dorothy attended Laurel High School and went on to marry Wayne L. Sankey. She was a loving mother to three sons, Wayne, Steven and Jeffrey. Dorothy was widowed at a very early age when she lost her husband Wayne. She later was remarried to Owen Bennett and relocated to San Diego, CA. She was truly a California girl, blond, tanned and loved the sun. Once again she returned to New Castle where she remained until her death. Some of her hobbies included crocheting, gardening and reading. She worked for a time in the health care field taking care of the elderly. She will be missed.Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Wayne L. Sankey of Austin, TX, and Jeffrey A. and Donna Sankey of Thompsons, TX; two grandchildren Crystal Marie Sankey and Steven Lee Sankey; her mother, Edna J.Woods Mohan Young Sankey of New Castle; her nine siblings, Norma E. and Harry Piper of Butler, Charles L.and Shirley Mohan of Indiana, Barbara L. Sword of Butler, Nora May and Clare Barnes of Edinburg, Robert L. and Joyce Mohan of Kentucky, Norman A. & Lynn Young of New Wilmington, Edna J. and Frank Rivera of California, Richard Mohan, and Bernard Mohan, both of Pittsburgh.She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne L. Sankey; her son, Steven Lee Sankey in 1994; her father, Leslie L. Mohan in 1975; her step father,Norman A. Young in 1975; her brother James L. Mohan in 1999; and her sister, Betsy Ann Wheale in 2010.Family and friends will be welcomed Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, from 10 a.m. til 12 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, with a service being held at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
