Dorothy J. Bradford, age 99, of New Castle, passed away the evening of Nov. 5, 2020, at Jameson Care Center. Born June 13, 1921, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Esli and Harriett (Hartzell) Black. Dorothy was married to James C. Bradford. He preceded her in death October of 1990. Dorothy was a graduate of Shenango High School. She went on to earn her teaching certificate at Indiana University, leading her to teach home economics at Shenango and Neshannock High Schools. After her teaching career, Dorothy enjoyed being a homemaker, playing bridge, and was an avid golfer. She was a president and member of various organizations throughout New Castle. She was a lifelong member of Highland United Presbyterian Church. Dorothy is survived by one son, Craig Bradford of Pittsburgh, PA; and two grandchildren, Lauren Bradford of Pittsburgh, PA and Mark Sodersten of New Castle, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Sodersten, two brothers, Robert and George Black, and one sister, Marien Duncan. In keeping with her wishes, private services will be held at the family's convenience. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
