Obituary

Dorothy J. Crawford, 85, a committed follower of Jesus Christ, formerly of Frew Mill Road, went to be with her blessed Savior the morning of March 5, 2014 at Rhodes Place in New Castle.Born March 13, 1928 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Andrew and Catherine Kalichun Works.She was preceded in death on June 21, 2004 by her beloved husband of 54 years, George D. Crawford, whom she married February 18, 1950.After her high school graduation, she pursued a career in nursing by attending the Jameson School of Nursing. Her education lead her to Hill View Manor, St. Francis Hospital, and eventually the Almira Home where she retired as a respiratory therapist.Dorothy lived her life to the fullest, finding enjoyment in sewing, painting, drawing and gardening. A writer of country music, she also often played guitar. Dorothy's most favored times where those spent with her family and grandchildren, often enjoying playing board games together.Her love for the Lord Jesus Christ was evidenced by her desire to serve him in many capacities at Calvary Independent Church.She is survived by three daughters, Gayle (Gerald) Mooney of New Wilmington, Beverly Crawford-Bellanca (Rev. Vincent Jr.) of Hermitage, and Jackie (Todd) Abraham of New Castle; two sons, Timothy (Karen Day) Crawford of Bakersfield, Calif, and Rev. Bradley (Gloria "Lori") Crawford of Kardern, Germany; two brothers, Alec Works and Steven Woryk both of New Castle; one sister, Ann Lawrence of Niagara Falls, NY; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Worek; and two sisters, Mary Zaneski and Helen Woryk.Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Independent Church, 424 E. Moody Avenue, New Castle, and will be officiated by the Rev. Chuck Fombelle.Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
