Dorothy Fisher Ginsberg, 92, of Chevy Chase, Maryland passed away Saturday October 8, 2011 from complications of emphysema.Dorothy was born and raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania. As a student, she demonstrated great talent and enthusiasm for playing the piano, winning state and national competitions, and after high school she attended and graduated from the Institute of Musical Art in New York and was then awarded a fellowship to Juilliard Graduate School. After graduation from Juilliard, she gave several performances in Town Hall in New York City and solo performances in many locations in the northeast United States. She married Dr. Joseph Ginsberg and they resided in New Castle, Pennsylvania. For her entire life, she continued to have an avid interest in cultural events especially musical performances and theater. She also did volunteer work for local medical organizations, loved to travel, and enjoyed time spent with family and close friends. For the past 13 years, she has resided in Chevy Chase, Maryland.She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Susan Ginsberg-Oliver and grandson Daniel Oliver, both of Silver Spring, MD., and her sister, Marjorie Satz, of Pittsburgh, Pa.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, the late Dr. Joseph Ginsberg.Burial will be at Tifereth Israel Cemetery in New Castle on Tuesday, October 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are being made for a memorial service in her honor in Chevy Chase, Maryland later this month.Donations in her honor may be made to the American Lung Association or to the charity of your choice.
