Dorothy P. Higgs, 89, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 21, 2015 at her residence. Born November 29, 1925 in Canonsburg, PA, she was a daughter of Steve and Mary Briggs Samis. Surviving at home is her husband of 44 years, Charles Higgs, whom she married February 26, 1971. Dorothy was previously a waitress for Valentine's Restaurant for 18 years, was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking for her family. A former member of Bethel Baptist Church, Dorothy was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church, ministering as a Sunday school teacher for both. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Steve (Joan) Brown, David (Stacy) Brown, and H. Dale (Cindy) Brown, all of New Castle; one daughter, Barbara Fandozzi of New Middletown, OH; two step-daughters, Pam (Ron) Miller of Portersville, and Penny Fraser of New Castle; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Barris; and three grandsons, James B. Brown, Michael Fandozzi,and Shawn Fandozzi. In keeping with Dorothy's wishes, there will not be any calling hours or service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements are by the R.
