Dorothy Helen Kalajainen, 88, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of January 1, 2012 in the Haven Convalescent Home.Born March 26, 1923 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Michael G. and Susanna Sontag Bender.She married Albert U. Kalajainen in 1948. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2005.Dorothy was a bookkeeper for Haney Furniture Company and a member of Third Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed recreational vehicle travel.She is survived by two nephews, Gary and his wife Connie Kalajainen of New Castle and Richard Kalajainen.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Bender.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 4, 2012, at the funeral home following the visitation. Pastor Michael Spicuzza will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
