Dorothy Jean Kastner, age 99, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 3, 2022, at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

Born November 26, 1922, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Roy and Claudia (Davies) Nelson.

She was preceded in death on January 6, 2002, by her beloved husband of 56 years, William B. Kastner, whom she married February 7, 1946.

Dorothy attended Ben Franklin Junior High and was a graduate of New Castle High School. She was employed with Shenango China until gaining employment with Strouss-Hirshberg as a sales associate.

Dorothy lived life to the fullest and enjoyed being involved with many activities including water skiing, camping, snowmobiling, golf, roller skating and ice skating, dancing and boating. She was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (Raymond) Miskell of Austintown, Ohio; one son, William R. (Susan) Kastner of Ellwood City; one sister, Betty Jane Majors of New Castle; two grandchildren Amy Barley of Gibsonia, PA and Nadine Davis of Aurora, Ohio; and four great grandchildren, Nathan Davis, Jack Barley, Brennen Davis and Ethan Barley.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Nelson and Robert Nelson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11:00 at the funeral home with Pastor Darryl Lockie officiating.

Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery.
